Maximise Safety: Essential Tips for Using Scaffold Towers

From renovation projects to small scale construction jobs, scaffold tower hire is a useful solution for many who require a safe working platform to carry out physical tasks at height.

With that said, it’s still important that scaffold towers are used safely and properly to avoid potential accidents from occurring and instead ensure maximum safety and efficiency for those who will be using the towers.

Follow some of our top tips below to ensure that you use your scaffold tower safely.

Choose the Right Tower

There are various types of scaffold tower available on the market. Each of these will be suitable for particular conditions and usage, so it’s important that you choose the right one to suit the task you’ll be using it for.

Some things you’ll need to consider in order to choose the right tower for your needs include:

●      Size - what height do you need to access?

●      Weight capacity - how many personnel will use the tower at any given time? What tools, equipment and materials will be taken onto it?

●      Safety features - what environment will you be working in? Will this require specific safety features?

Follow the Proper Assembly Instructions

All reliable scaffold towers will come with the manufacturer’s manual, containing guidance and instructions. It’s important that you read these thoroughly and follow them closely when erecting your scaffold tower.

This ensures you’ll be setting it up correctly, ensuring that it’s safe to stand on and accidents are less likely to occur due to human error. The manual will also offer guidance on how to correctly use the scaffold tower, which you should familiarise yourself with.

Place on Firm Ground

Scaffold towers should always be placed on firm, level surfaces to ensure stability is maintained whilst the tower is being used. Some towers do feature adjustable legs so that they can be levelled on uneven or sloping surfaces, however it’s always best to consult a professional if this is the case.

Carry Out Regular Inspections

Scaffold towers should be inspected at regular intervals after their initial assembly. Whilst for construction scaffolding it’s recommended that a competent individual inspects it before it’s used for the first time, then every seven days until it’s taken down, mobile scaffold towers require more frequent inspection.

It’s also recommended that you inspect your scaffold tower after any alterations take place, such as changing the working platform level, moving the position of the tower or altering its height.
